    • Ref:UK, Casualties of the Boer War, 1899-1902 ,The Argus (Melbourne, Vic. : 1848 - 1956) Tuesday 26 February 1901 "It will be learned with regret that Mr Wilfred Chesney Wilson, who left Melbourne in February last year for South Africa, died on the 19th inst from wounds received near Hartebeestfontein, while fighting under Lord Methuen three days before . It was in this engagement also that a number of other Australians were killed or wounded The news was conveyed by cable message yesterday to Mr John Fisken by Mr Clarence Wilson, brother of the deceased soldier, who, with him and another brother, Herbert, went to join the Imperial Yeomanry then being formed in England, the brothers being accompanied by their sister, Miss Wilson, who desired to be near them when they went into action. The deceased was the second son of the late Sir Samuel Wilson, of Ercildoune.Captain Gordon Chesney Wilson,of the Royal Horse Guards (the Blues), who was recently in Melbourne with the Imperial troops, is another brother. Captain Wilson and his wife, Lady Sarah Wilson, were in Mafeking during the long siege. Mr Wilfred Wilson was a well known figure in sporting circles here In conjunction with his brother Clarence, he owned a number of racehorses, among them Wait a Bit, Tremarden, and Kaaba, and Ercildoune, his own property, ran second in the Cesarewitch Stakes in 1899."(Incorrectly named as Wilfred Chesney Wilson)
