    • Captain Alexander Chesney, an Irishman of Scottish descent emigrated to South Carolina in 1772,had taken the loyalist side during the revolutionary war, and served with distinction under Hastings (afterwards Lord Moira) and Cornwallis, and at the time of his second son's birth, was settled down as a revenue-officer at Ballyvea, in the County of Down .

    • Robert,Elizabeth and all their children sailed from Lame the 25th. August 1772 ,aboard the "James and Mary",and arrived safe in the Harbor of Charleston, South Carolina after a passage of seven weeks and three days on the 16th October 1772. The Smallpox was so severe in the Vessel during the passage,the Surgeon came on board and reported to the Governor the state of the passengers , and they were obliged to ride Quarantine, for seven weeks and one day; nearly as long as the passage itself.
