    • Sir Thomas was the chief of the Kirkpatrick family of Dumfrieshire at this time. Appointed Keeper of Lochmaben Castle in 1481 with 100 men under his command,and sat in the Parliament of King James III. Lochmaben Castle was the home of Robert the Bruce whilst he was Lord of Annandale,and as such was always known as a royal fortress.

      This Sir Thomas is reported in these other records as having died in 1515,and the persons listed below are in fact his children,but Maj Gen Charles Kirkpatrick rejected this supposition in his book Records of the Closeburn Kirkpatricks.This Sir Thomas did in fact die in 1502,but was not succeeded by his son Thomas (a minor at the time of his father's death) until 1515,thus causing the confusion regarding the year of death.
