"The Late Rev. Thomas Craig. IN another column is announced the death at Thorgomindah of the Rev. Thomas Craig. From data furnished us by a friend of the deceased gentleman, we gather the following particulars respecting his history : Mr., Craig was ordained and inducted, under the Route Presbytery, into the pastoral charge of a congregation in the county of Antrim, Ireland, in 1840, and for twelve years ministered to them to their great satisfaction, and refusing many offer of a better position and larger income. In 1852, acting on the advice of his friends, the Revs. Drs. Cooke and Stewart, he emigrated to Melbourne, under the auspices of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ireland, and was highly recommended by the gentlemen mentioned. On his arrival in Melbourne he was offered the charge several churches, both Free and Established, but chose to cast in his lot with the adherents of the Established Church. Subsquently Mr. Craig did much to bring about a union of the Presbyterian Churches of Victoria, and, after spending some years in that colony, passed over to New South Wales on the invitation of the congregation of St. Andrew's, Parramatta, whose pastor he became. Failing health and a bronchial affection induced him to come to this colony, where he for some time occupied the position of pastor in St. Stephen's church, Ipswich. His voice, however, failed him so much that he was obliged to desist from preaching and retire from the ministry. The respect in which he was generally held, and the influence of his friends, induced the Government to appoint Mr. Craig Police Magistrate at Thargomindah, in the Lower Warrego disstrict."
