    • (Research):Ann's father,James(1820-1895) was born in Clifford, Yorkshire, England,son of John William Taylor, merchant, and his wife Ann. He probably reached Sydney as an assisted migrant in the James Pattison on 2 February 1840 and in 1840-46 acquired pastoral experience. He arrived on the Darling Downs in 1848 with sheep for the Dawson River district.

      He married Sarah Boulton in 1850 in the first marriage ceremony performed on the Darling Downs (the wedding was held at Drayton). They had five sons and four daughters. In 1860, James Taylor became the member for the Western Downs in the first Queensland Legislative Assembly .In 1890, he was elected mayor of Toowoomba.


      He died on October 19th 1895 at Clifford House,120 Russell Street, Toowoomba.Sarah remained at Clifford House until her death in 1908.
