    • Ref: The North Western Courier (Narrabri, NSW : 1913 - 1955) Thu 22 Sep 1932 Deep regret has been expressed at the death of Mr. James Anderson, a very old and respected resident, who passed away on 29th August, aged 96 years and five months.

This grand old man came from Scotland to Australia in the year 1854. Landing at Melbourne he went to his brother's station for a few months, and then managed a station for Mr. John Barker, but later managed a station for Mr. Hughglass.

About this time he married Miss Margaret Cleaves, daughter of Dr.Cleaves, and was also prominent on the turf, where he raced several of his own horses on the Melbourne tracks.

In 1865 he took up a property, but droughts forced him from the land, and he commenced tank sinking, and also conveyed goods from Forbes to Condobolin, before the Railway joined the two towns. The call of the land was too great, however, and he commenced share farming in the Condobolin district. In 1908 he came to Wee Waa and had remained In the district ever since, for many years residing with his grand-daughter, Mrs A. J. Barton.
A brilliant scholar, with a, remarkable memory, 'Daddy' as he was generally called, could hold his listeners. He .knew many of the bushrangers personally. Love of his native land was always strong, and to within a few days of his death, a Scotch song could bring a sparkle to the aged eyes.

A brother and sister, both older than 'Daddy' are still alive in Scotland,' while threechildren still survive, Another pioneer has gone to rest, and to his relatives, deepest sympathy is extended.
