DEATH OF MRS. MARY DA COSTA LORD The death occurred at her residence, Tower street, Albion, yesterday afternoon of Mrs. Mary Da Costa Lord, relict of the late Fredercik Lord, who for many years represented the Stanley electorate in the State Parliament. Mrs. Lord, who was aged 73, had been ailing for some time and the end was not unexpected. She was a daughter of the late James Warner, who had surveyed Brisbane before there were many residents in the locality. When Mr. Warner arrived in Brisbane there were only six houses(He was for many years the Sergeant-at-Arms in the Queensland legislative Assembly). Mrs. Lord had resided at Eskdale station in the Esk district for many years, and her son on the day of her death took over this property from the syndicate of which his mother had been the surviving member. The deceased lady had spent many years on the station during the tough pioneering days, and her death will lose to Queensland another of the fine old pioneers who helped to make her what she is at the present time. Mrs. Lord took a prominent part in local charities, and had ever been prodigal in her donations to the poor and deserving. She leaves one son and two daughters to mourn her loss, Mr Ernest Lord of Eskdale: Mrs. H. R. Brown, and Mrs. Guy L'Estrange, both of this city. The funeral will move from her residence at 10 o'clock to-morrow morning for the Toowong Cemetery, where the last rites will be performed by Archdeacon Osborn, assisted by Rev. Harold Osborn.

    Notes
    • Mary was the fourth daughter of the late Mr. James Warner, of Brisbane, for many years sergeant-at-arms in the Queensland Legislative Assembly. Mr. Warner was previously a surveyor, and laid out much of the city of Brisbane. It is worthy of note here that had his plans been carried out instead of being cut down by the Government of the day the streets of Brisbane would have been very much wider than they are now. When Mr. Warner arrived in -Brisbane there were only six houses here, but he had the foresight to realise that a large would spring from the foundations he was told to lay. (from the obituary of her husband Frederick)
