"LONG QUEST FOR SIGNATURE Income from Legacy Tied Up For three years police all over Australia have been vainly searching for Mrs. Ruby Walditch Gerahty (43), last heard of as a stewardess, just to obtain her signature to a legal document. Pending the receipt of the signature the income from a legacy bequeathed her from the 10,030 estate of her father, the late Simeon F Lord ,grazier, which up to now has been used to support her two children in Brisbane, has been tied up. Unless she is found' legal steps to presume her death will have to be taken before the administration of the estate can release further moneys. Actually Mrs. Gerahiy has been missing for more than six years. She was last known to be living at Essex Street, Epping, New South Wales, with her husband, John Gerahty, and her two children by a previous marriage to a man named Webster. Late in 1929 she handed over the children to the care of her mother, Mrs. Lord, in Brisbane, and disappeared, giving no hint of her intentions. At the time Mrs. Gerahty was receiving a comfortable income under the will of her late father, Mr. Simeon Fitz-Herbert Lord, owner of Eskdale station in the Brisbane Valley. Mr. Lord, died in July, 1916, leaving an estate of nearly 10,000. Mrs. Gerahty made ample provision for the children by signing over her entire interest in the estate to her mother. SISTER CARES FOR CHILDREN Police were shortly afterwards engaged in an extensive search for her but without result. Her family heard that she had secured a position as a stewardess on a Matson liner operating between Sydney and San Francisco, but the company's books did not disclose any employee of her name. It is believed, however, that she signed on under an assumed name. Three years ago Mrs. Lord died, and the care of the children was taken over by Mrs. Gerahty's sister, Miss Evelyn Lord, of Stafford Road, Kedron. They have remained with her ever since. The formal transfer of benefits under the legacy to Miss Lord was required by the administrators of the estate, the Union Trustee Co., and the search for the missing mother was promptly renewed Although her description has been circulated to every police station in Australia and inquiries made in New Zealand and America, no trace of her has been found. During the six years of her absence she has not once written to her family and, if still alive, is probably unaware of her mother's death. The administrators, pending the outcome of the search, have continued the payments under the legacy on behalf of the daughters, who are now both approaching their majority but recently a hitch has occurred. Until the long-sought signature of Mrs. Gerahty is forthcoming the money is tied up unless legal action to presume death is successful. Apart from the financial aspect Mrs. Gerahty's family is anxious to find 'her, and the Queensland police have been asked to resume the search."
